Customer Review: Buying a second pair of CW-X

As a 21 year old athletic male, I enjoy running very much. However, historically the cold has presented a problem, as I hate loose material chaffing against my legs - e.g. sweat pants. When I learned about compression clothing, I did some digging, and as it turns out, there is quite a lot of technology and research behind the genre. However, only the CW-X line is so specifically tailored towards binding ligaments, reducing muscle oscillation and holding the joints in place.
Born from Wocoal, a Japanese intimate apparel company, CW-X was founded in 1991 with the intention of creating clothing which is both stylish and performance enhancing. As anyone who wears these tights can tell you, they have succeeded in both aspects. Not only do they not chaff, but the tights are extremely comfortable and have significantly boosted my athletic statistics. Moreover, they look very nice, provided you wear boxer briefs underneath. I would imagine that if you did not comply with the latter, the effect would be similar to that of being a flasher. Lastly, one of my female running partners has told me several times that girls running the other way have "checked me out", so that's also a plus.
If you are on the edge, just buy them. It took me a while to be comfortable in them, but if you need a buffer period, wear shorts over them. The boost and protection they offer make more than nullify any insecurities which some men might have. These are absolutely worth it. If nothing else, they are great for recovery after a long run - sometimes I even sleep in them if I feel an injury coming on.
P.S. I run in temperatures ranging from 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit with the CW-X compression socks underneath, and have found that this model offers plenty of protection against the cold.

The first warm weather conditioning tight, designed to reduce "heat fatigue" and improve circulation through combining Support Web technology with mesh Ventilator panels.CW-X's Ventilator Tights--the company's first warm-weather conditioning tights--are perfect for warm-weather athletes who want lower body support and cooling. Mesh ventilation panels located in the hottest areas of the leg (the quadriceps and calf) allow hot air to escape and cool air to enter, reducing heat fatigue and improving circulation.
The Coolmax quick-drying fabric wicks moisture away from the body to the outside of the tights, keeping them cool, dry, and comfortable. The patented CW-X Support Web provides targeted support to the knee, IT band, and hip-flexor areas for greater stability and improved performance. The tights are anatomically engineered for each gender, providing comfort, ease of movement, and a better fit. They provide versatile performance, both as outerwear and as a base layer. A reflective logo provides extra visibility for nighttime activities. The flat-seam construction eliminates abrasions, increases comfort, and enhances fit. Other features include a key pocket and a double-reinforced waistband with a flat-draw cord.

Human Science Research Center, Kyoto, Japan: Study of electrical pulse activity in muscles
Muscles firing into motion were measured electromyographically for subjects wearing CW-X gear, subjects wearing competitor products, and subjects with bare legs. Electrical pulse activity decreased in unsupported and partly supported legs during exercise, indicative of fatigue. Legs supported by CW-X showed a negligible decrease in electrical pulse activity.

Human Science Research Center, Kyoto, Japan: Study of stability, impact, and motion
In this study, high-speed video analysis was used to compare stability, impact, and motion in CW-X products and regular compression gear. CW-X Support Web tights were 10 percent more stable and balanced and absorbed 12 percent more shock to the knee than regular compression tights. CW-X Support Web tops allowed 9 percent greater range of motion for the arm than regular compression tops.

This study measured VO2 oxygen uptake levels over the course of 15 minutes of running in CW-X gear, regular compression tights, and running shorts. CW-X Support Web tights showed 26 percent less oxygen use than regular compression tights and 36 percent less oxygen use than traditional running shorts, indicating lower energy expenditure.
