Description of CW-X Men's Ventilator Running TightsThe first warm weather conditioning tight, designed to reduce "heat fatigue" and improve circulation through combining Support Web technology with mesh Ventilator panels. CW-X's Ventilator Tights--the company's first warm-weather conditioning tights--are perfect for warm-weather athletes who want lower body support and cooling. Mesh ventilation panels located in the hottest areas of the leg (the quadriceps and calf) allow hot air to escape and cool air to enter, reducing heat fatigue and improving circulation. The Coolmax quick-drying fabric wicks moisture away from the body to the outside of the tights, keeping them cool, dry, and comfortable. The patented CW-X Support Web provides targeted support to the knee, IT band, and hip-flexor areas for greater stability and improved performance. The tights are anatomically engineered for each gender, providing comfort, ease of movement, and a better fit. They provide versatile performance, both as outerwear and as a base layer. A reflective logo provides extra visibility for nighttime activities. The flat-seam construction eliminates abrasions, increases comfort, and enhances fit. Other features include a key pocket and a double-reinforced waistband with a flat-draw cord. Fabrics The 80 percent Coolmax, 20 percent Lycra four-way stretch fabric pulls moisture away from the body to the outside of the tights and provides a UV protection rating of UPF 40+. About CW-X Support Web Technology The patented CW-X Support Web technology mimics taping techniques that trainers apply to injured muscles. When this technology is applied to muscles and joints, it creates an exoskeletal support system that improves biomechanics during motion. The CW-X Support Web provides targeted support to key areas, decreasing muscle oscillation and focusing power so your muscles work more efficiently. Variable compression along the web facilitates circulation, minimizing lactic acid build-up and muscle soreness, so you can be active longer and recover faster. About Lycra and Coolmax The genius at the heart of CW-X is an obedience to the structure of the body, made possible by two extraordinary fibers: Lycra and Coolmax. Coolmax moves moisture instantaneously from the body out to the fabric's outer surface, where it evaporates at twice the speed of cotton. So with CW-X Conditioning Wear, you remain cool at even the highest temperatures. When less energy goes toward cooling the body, more energy is left to help you excel. Lycra, on the other hand, possesses the unique ability to stretch yet retain its shape. About CW-X Gear Technology For 40 years, scientists at Wacoal Human Science Research Center in Kyoto, Japan, have studied kinesiology, the science of human movement. They have tested over 35,000 people and analyzed injuries relative to warm-up and cool-down periods. They have come to understand the mechanics of joints and muscles in minute detail. This exhaustive study of body movement has culminated in over 50 patents worldwide. Below are some further studies demonstrating the performance-enhancing qualities of CW-X Conditioning Wear. Human Science Research Center, Kyoto, Japan: Study of electrical pulse activity in muscles Muscles firing into motion were measured electromyographically for subjects wearing CW-X gear, subjects wearing competitor products, and subjects with bare legs. Electrical pulse activity decreased in unsupported and partly supported legs during exercise, indicative of fatigue. Legs supported by CW-X showed a negligible decrease in electrical pulse activity. Human Science Research Center, Kyoto, Japan: Study of stability, impact, and motion In this study, high-speed video analysis was used to compare stability, impact, and motion in CW-X products and regular compression gear. CW-X Support Web tights were 10 percent more stable and balanced and absorbed 12 percent more shock to the knee than regular compression tights. CW-X Support Web tops allowed 9 percent greater range of motion for the arm than regular compression tops. University of Montpelier, France: Study of VO2 oxygen uptake levels This study measured VO2 oxygen uptake levels over the course of 15 minutes of running in CW-X gear, regular compression tights, and running shorts. CW-X Support Web tights showed 26 percent less oxygen use than regular compression tights and 36 percent less oxygen use than traditional running shorts, indicating lower energy expenditure. Apparel reviews of CW-X Men's Ventilator Running TightsCustomer Review: Understand your running gear Rating: 5 Stars
I have come to love these running tights. When I ordered them, I was concerned because I was in the gray area of the size chart and could go larger or smaller. After reading reviews of other people and hearing problems with the tights sliding down while running, I went with the small size even though, being 5' 9" and over 200 pounds just 3 months ago (now 160), never thought I would buy small anything. I am glad that I did because I have never had a problem with the tights slipping and they stay where they belong.
One thing to note: be sure to try them on shorter runs if this is your first pair of running tights. Your body will need to adjust to the tights as they really are a new piece of running equipment. You will definitely feel the difference when you wear these. The first time I wore these, I chose a longer run and ended up getting a pulled muscle. Just be aware that the tights are going to provide support over the legs and knees which means that parts of the body are going to get worked differently than without the tights.
However, after wearing on a couple of shorter runs, these tight are now the first thing I go for when I am getting ready for any distance run. I love these tights and would highly recommend them.
Customer Review: Great support for Running and Cycling Rating: 5 Stars
My right knee is always bothering me and these tights offer great support, not only to the knee but also to the IT band and the calf. It can be used for Intervals workouts - in Running and Cycling - as they help flushing lactic acid and supporting the patella when pushing big gears. It helps with recovery and you can actually wear them under your clothes during the day - I would not recommend it for use while sleeping. I suggest that you size it using the biggest measure among the waist, leg or calf. Recommended!
Customer Review: Don't stay up Rating: 5 Stars
I bought them for the support in the knee area. I recommend this product to every one. The compression is very good and provides a lot of comfort reducing the muscle fatigue.
The fabrics are excellent, and the wy off support to the designated areas is very cleaver.
One complain, you have to pull up them very often
Customer Review: Skeptic turned fan Rating: 4 Stars
I decided to run in a marathon and started training for it. When I started to get up into the higher mileage, double digits, I started experiencing leg and knee pains I had not had before. I tried all sorts of things to remedy the situation, calf compression, KT tape, and new shoes. Despite various techniques I was still experiencing discomfort in running.
I decided that it might be helpful to get more compression all over my legs since I liked my calf sleeve. I decided to go with the CWX Ventilator's because it offered knee support, the part of my leg that was the most troublesome.
Like most people trying running tights for the first time, I was skeptical if I would like them. I tend to enjoy the freedom of movement in my legs and thought these tights would be too restrictive. I also worried about how warm I would get since I live in Southern California. I do most of my running at nights but the temperature, even in winter, usually did not drop below 50 degrees.
Well I can say that for me, these two fears were unfounded. I have found I actually enjoy running in these tights. The ventilation provided in these tights does what they are supposed to, keep you cool. The compression is actually quite nice to have and does not overly restrict my running motion. The support for the knees is OK, but not great. The one slight against these is for anybody looking for a miracle. I still experienced some leg pains but with a combination of things, was able to reduce it to a bearable level. I would only take off 1/2 star for this, but since I can't do that at Amazon, I have to give it a 4.
I ended up running the marathon in these tights. I also did all my long runs in these tights. Was never too warm or uncomfortable, but to be fair the LA marathon in 2011 was in the middle of a miserable cold storm so having running tights ended up being really important.
I also bought the Stabilyx running tights, also from CWX to see if the support there would be better. Definitely better than the ventilators but not so much so that I prefer those to these since they are decidedly warmer to wear and in my opinion more restrictive. Between the two, I would recommend these, especially if you run in warmer weather.
