I was debating between mainly two types of boot trees, one like Dasco shaper that has a handle on top to aid the adjustment and the other without. I was glad that I purchased this one even though it doubles the price of the other type.
When you hold the top handle (the bar and the top curved part) and push down on the curved part, the two sides of the shaper get compressed. That makes it very easy to slide the shapers into the boots. Once the shapers are in, simply release the pressure on the handle, shapers will expand and automatically fit the boots. The tension is the right amount for the boots to keep them straight w/o stretching the leather.
I also tried to use Dasco shaper w/o pushing on the handle as if it didn't have the function. It was definitely trickier to get the shapers into the boots.
So, for $10 more, I get to enjoy the ease of use for years to come.
