Customer Review: Good Coat

This is a very nice quality coat. I don't actually have one myself yet, at least not an oilskin. I have a leather drover/greatcoat style that is similar but does not have the leg splits and/or saddle gussets. I know folk with this coat and I find the quality exceptionally nice. I myself don't do much riding, but find modern raincoats don't compete with the classic oilskin or wool (I prefer oilskin hats in the summer and wool in the autumn/winter); see I am an archaeologist and am in all sorts of bad weather often without shelter.
Also this is a perfect coat for those of you that live along coasts with heavy rain, within a few more years I will be returning to Ireland and know this coat will keep me dry without making me to hot in the 50F South Irish rainy weather. My only complaint with the coat is off the rack it lacks excess proofing, so I would recommend buying a can of reproofing wax ($10) and would apply it after you wear the coat in the first heavy rain. For $20-30 more you can get a Kakadu brand oilskin coat that comes heavily waxed so you won't need to reproof for the first year.
Finally I must say this coat is not just for your stereotypical cowboy, it is an all around great work coat for anyone (archaeologist to fisherman to mariner) routinely exposed to the elements.

When the fleece liner is removed you have a cotton liner and a lighter weight coat, suitable for those rainy days in spring.
