Apparel Details

• This sarong is a print of the Kanaka Maoli flag & also King Kamehameha. * It was said to have been the personal flag of Kamehameha and the original flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It also includes the Hawaiian motto.
• At the center of the flag is a green shield bearing a coat of arms of the kanaka maoli. It includes the royal kahili, the original Hawaiian royal standard. The two paddles which cross over the kahili are meant to represent the voyaging tradition of the Native Hawaiians.
• The nine stripes represent each of the major islands which were inhabited before the arrival of Western civilization. These were the island of Hawaii, Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, Niihau and Nihoa.
• The three flag colors represent different classes of the Hawaiians. Yellow represent the Ali'i, the royal class. Red represents the konohiki, the landed caste that served the Ali'i. The color green represents the makaainana, or commoners.
• This sarong is heavier than regular sarongs and measures approximately 70" X 44" * 100% Rayon
