Description of Vietnamese Embroidered Silk Scarf - Lilac
Ever since its discovery in China over 4,500 years ago, silk has been revered for its lustrous beauty and exquisite texture. Raw silk comes from the cocoons spun by the silkworm as part of its lifecycle. To create just one pound of silk, 2,500 worms must be nurtured from egg to caterpillar, and finally to the chrysalis stage at which point a cocoon is formed. This cocoon is then soaked in water and hand-spun into thread that may then be dyed. This remains a time and labor-intensive process.The craft of silk making came to Vietnam many centuries ago. It has played such an important role in the cultural development of some villages that the village bears the name of either the silk product it produces, or of the person who brought silk-making techniques to the villagers. One of Vietnams highest art forms is, in fact, painting on silk. Because this requires silk of the highest quality, Vietnamese producers soon came to perfect their techniques and became know for producing some of the finest quality silk in the world.
This lovely scarf is made from high quality Vietnamese silk, and is embellished by an embroidered floral motif and beaded fringe. It is made by a family of Vietnamese artisans following traditional methods handed down through generations.
