Description of Fisher Pens Lacquered Bullet Space Pen w/ ClipWhen closed, Bullet Space Pens are the perfect size to carry in your wallet, pocket, purse, car glove box, organizer or toolbox. When open it's a full sized, evenly balanced writing instrument.
The original Bullet Space Pen was conceived in July of 1948, Paul Fisher was soon machining a new pen design shaped from solid aluminum. It became our first Fisher ball point pen, the 400 Bullet Pen, and arguably the most popular pen of the twentieth century. This pen is now all brass with a Shiny Black Lacquered finish, maroon, or Emerald Green with a Gold Plated Clip.
Cited as an outstanding example of industrial art, the classic design of the Fisher Bullet Pen has been exhibited for years in the New York Museum of Modern Art. The Bullet's timeless styling has been the topic of many art books and magazine articles. Often imitated but never duplicated, the Fisher Bullet continues to be our most popular pen.
Apparel reviews of Fisher Pens Lacquered Bullet Space Pen w/ ClipCustomer Review: Not for everyone but worth it, even at twice the price. Rating: 5 StarsI'm on my third or fourth, I've lost count. I recall these being around as far back as the early 1970s, an back then they only offered chrome and no pocket clip. So, they're provenance claim is accurate.
I work both outdoors and indoors, write on paper, facing downward *most* of the time. This pen has successfully functioned for me exactly as advertised. It's my everyday use pen, particularly out in the field.
It's a ballpoint, and the ink's a tad thicker than cheaper ballpoint pen inks, so it requires a small amount of effort to use it. It's great for occasional use, but I could see taking 10+ pages of notes could get old.
If you get one, make sure the pocket clip is pressed at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the way down on the cap, otherwise it will slip off unnoticed. Also make sure the O-ring on the pen body is present, and has a tiny knick in it for air release. The cap should have a small amount of drag as it's pulled off. Twisting the pen body halves together compresses the O-ring, causing it to squeeze out and increases cap "drag".
I have experienced a problem, but I haven't traced the exact cause. I have lost at least three of these pens, two of them this exact model. One finally surfaced, but was claimed by my wife. As far as I can tell, they're a little heavier than a standard pen, and with a smooth, streamlined profile it easily slips out of the smallest hole in my pocket. To help avoid this, I pressed the pocket clip a little further down on the cap to tighten it, and tied a 24" long strand of parachute cord to the clip. So far, so good...[8^)
Customer Review: Fisher Space Pen -- Best In Universe Rating: 5 StarsI gave this pen as a gift because I wouldn't live without my Fisher Space Pen (a similar model). I lost one and bought a replacement right away. When I found the original, I gave it to my college-age son. He loves it, too.
The pen is conveniently sized and well balanced, and writes smoothly, evenly and immediately every time -- even at a 90 degree angle. To be honest, I haven't had the opportunity to try it in space or under water yet. (What does one write ON under water?!) Nevertheless, it's the perfect pen for earth-bound scribes, and theoretically reliable anywhere in the universe.
Customer Review: Great Pen Rating: 5 StarsJust a great pen all around. I had the same model before, but it went the way of lost socks. My replacement functions just the same as the first.
Customer Review: Bullet pen Rating: 2 StarsIts a small pen. That pretty much sums it up.
As far as details, there was rust in our cap, and it doesn't seem to fit as firmly as you'd expect. If I were floating through space, or just placing it in a bag/purse, I'd want to be a little more sure the cap wasn't going to come off and get ink all over my million dollar space suit.
The plastic case came to us broken, but I guess that's shipping to blame. Packaging the box in a soft envelope doesn't do much for protection though.
As far as writing, so far so good. Smooth enough and doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary.
If given the choice again, I probably wouldn't buy it, hence the two stars.
Customer Review: Normal! Rating: 3 StarsThey fell short of my expectations. Although they look sort of cool, I wonder if they are worth the money when you'r living on earth
