Gerber makes the best, most economically priced training pants you will find. What makes these great is that they are trim fitting, absorb a reasonable amount (thing leak--not major pee), wash well (no bunching up of the lining like many other styles of training pants do) and allow your child to know when they've wet (unlike pull-ups or disposable diapers). They work great for potty training.
Some other comments: because they are trim fitting, it is likely that your child won't be able to put them on or take them off very easily, especially if your child is on the 18 month side. But it is likely you'll be assisting your child in the potty so this is not a big issue. Also you can't expect these to contain as much liquid as a diaper--again think leak. I also purchased a couple of diaper covers (like bummis super whisper wrap or similar) to put over these when my daughter was beginning her potty training. We called them "big girl underpants covers" and they helped contain the liquid when she did have a *BIG* accident. Later when she became more adept at stopping the flow if she had a little leak, we stopped using the "big girl underpants covers."
Finally a comment about potty training--it goes in leaps and spurts. At first you think it isn't really sinking in and the child really isn't getting it. He/she seems to tell you after they've already gone. And then one day he/she starts telling you BEFORE needing to go potty. Then another day they just start being dry the majority of the time during the day. And all of a sudden the majority of the nights are dry. But you can go for weeks or longer without any obvious sign of progress. Just hang in there and be consistent--all of a sudden your child will make a leap forward.

A wonderfully basic training pant that can be an effective potty training tool. The center panel is 5 layers of 100% cotton and an inner core of extra absorbent polyester. The side panels are a cotton-poly blend. These training pants have enough absorbency for little leaks on the way to the toilet and are inexpensive enough to keep plenty on hand.Underwear & Socks
