Every day I need to keep my messenger bag within easy reach at work, yet I am often on the move and do not have a set office space. I work in the hospital where there leaving things on the floor may not be very hygienic but that's generally where my bag ended up, getting dirty and kicked around all day.
About 6 months ago my mom got me a similar product that I initially scoffed at being a guy...however, I soon found it indispensable and got continued feedback that many folks thought it was a really a cool idea! That product was pretty cheaply made and broke recently so I began to look for something better... I hesitated before buying this because it looks a little more like jewelry, but having received it, I am absolutely delighted!
Let's talk function first. It's small, extremely well-built, and has an awesome no-slip rubberized bottom (which my initial bag hanger lacked making it far less stable than this one). The coolest thing is that it folds up into this tiny coin-sized medallion and then is held there tightly with two tiny magnets. With a quick movement, it unfurls and then twists into shape. Can I say that it is brilliant! It is incredibly well-built and solid, which is particularly amazing given its cost. Functionally it perfectly holds my (heavy) messenger bag from counters and tables and keeps it there despite people jostling and banging into it all the time. When done, it folds back into that tiny medallion and I slip it right into my bag.
Now let's talk form. Indeed, it looks a little bit like a magical artifact from Indiana Jones--but that's not a bad thing! It's actually really neat looking in person and, in my humble opinion, is not "exclusively feminine" (though some men may disagree). Most importantly, however, is that it looks nice and not like a piece of junk. For men, perhaps even more important than that, is that it is pretty darn inconspicuous for what it is. Although the bright red ruby-like jewel seems gaudy in the pictures, because the thing is pretty small and well-crafted, when holding your bag, it is handsomely understated. I specifically asked a few guys at work about it and they were all like: "Oh, that's cool! Where did you get it?" The women I work with also really liked it and will be picking some up.
In sum, this is an incredibly well-made functional product at a very good price. I will try to post an update in a few months of hard daily use but my sense is that it will hold up well and, frankly, given the low cost, will painlessly be replaced should it fail. For women, this is a no brainer; for men who are sensitive about "girly" things, I would say that it is probably not an issue with this product though I suppose if the company released a smooth, jewel-less plain version that would be totally reasonable for any guy.
