I have owned many book lights. This one is the sturdiest and most functional I have come across. It folds flat for travel (no unwieldy gooseneck to snap off!) and I have taken mine around the world several times with no problems. It has also survived my two-year-old playing with it. It uses rechargeable AAAs, which is very convenient; a set of batteries lasts me about a month with nightly use. Unlike some of the ultralight lamps now on the market, the Lumatec is weighted properly to sit on its own without tipping over -- clipping it onto somthing is optional. It also has a clip, a stand, and a lanyard. The lanyard is nice for air travel; you can hang it around your neck. I've had my Lumatec for 6 years and it is still working perfectly. I am buying a second one for my husband so he will stop trying to steal mine.
