Definitely one of the best things I've ever purchased. Tags themselves are hardened steel, and the chain is, to me, high quality; not plastic like one customer said... The only minor thing, which I guess is not the manufacturer's fault is that the chain is a bit long, and is not something that you can cut yourself; a jeweler may help as the chain is welded to the hooks; so is not something you can cut yourself and relink.
But all in all - A great product. I wear this everywhere. At my workplace I have to wear tie and coat and my tags are right underneath my shirt :D

I cannot even begin to express my pleasure in the Gears Tags. The entire experience was great. The package arrived earlier that promised, the quality of the tags was amazing, and my husband (a rabid Gears fan) is still showing off the tags to whomever will stand still long enough for him to get them from his car where he keeps them. One of the few gifts that hasn't disappeared into his collection shelves after the first week.
I was expecting a lightweight alloy construction but these tags are heavy-duty! I would recommend them to any hard-core Gears player.

The Cogs themselves are real metal.
Thick so they wont bend out of shape, and are strong enough to have your own name (or whatever) engraved in them as well.
As stated, they are stamped (Dog tag style) with "PROPERTY OF THE COALITION OF ORDERED GOVERNMENT".
The "chain" however is made of plastic, but it looks metal. So you might want to replace it, your call.
Over all they are great, if you are any kind of fan of the Gears of war trilogy buy these COG tags.

being a fan of the g.o.w. series I couldnt resist getting these. Am I glad I did these met all my expectations and surpassed them. Originally I thought it would be a cheap gimmicky plastic. But was I wrong these are real metal and they have a nice weight to them. The letters are engraved not painted on so that was a plus. I give these two thumbs up and to neca as well they usually build quality and detail oriented products. Any Gears fan would appreciate these. Bought this in a fit of GoW insanity, but these cog tags live up to the hype. They're pure metal! I've personally had them for a while now, and there's no sign of bending or damage. The cogs also have "Property of the Coalition of Ordered Governments" etched on the side. The chain itself is a little flimsy but survives regular use (unless you try to pull it off your neck).
