Best for Nubuck and Suede leathers and safe for Gore-tex.Clean and maintain your nubuck and suede leather footwear with this Nikwax footwear kit, which includes a cleaning gel and waterproofing agent. The gel cleaner--which works on all suede, nubuck, or smooth-finish leathers and fabric--is designed to remove stubborn dirt and wax left by previous waterproofing applications. It's also formulated to retain leather's natural water repellency, unlike most other cleaners, which instead strip leather of its natural oils. Recommended for Gore-Tex and SympaTex footwear, the cleaner is ideal for general cleaning, but also as a prep for a fresh waterproofing application. Enter the Nikwax water-based waterproofing agent, which contains mineral waxes, flexible polymers, and tanning agents to condition and protect your leather footwear without over-softening it or changing the fit. The agent is specially formulated to bond with fabric fibers and leather, making it suitable for Gore-Tex, SympaTex, and eVent footwear. Note that the wax will darken down leather and suede, so users should always test on an inconspicuous spot first. All Nikwax water-based products are nontoxic and contain no harmful solvents, fluorocarbons, or propellants.
Apparel reviews of Nikwax Footwear Care Kit for Nubuck and SuedeCustomer Review: Nikwax vs Snoseal
Initially, I was talked into Nikwax for reasons such as, "It's better for your shoes and less damaging", "It doesn't attract dirt", etc. I followed the application instructions and my leather shoes still got soaked in the Seattle rains and puddles. I had another pair of leather shoes and decided to use Snoseal (the stuff I always used for my hiking boots), Snoseal is still my favorite. My shoes have stayed dry in Seattle rains and this week they are surviving the scary puddles of New York when I can't avoid them.
