Description of Pacsafe Daysafe 100 Anti-Theft Backpack, Black

The Fort Knox of backpacks! Slash-proof, tamper-proof and snatch-proof, DaySafeTM 100 is the Fort Knox of backpacks! The removable 16-liter main compartment (which may also be used as a portable safe in your hotel room or car) is constructed of eXomesh® Slashguard (stainless steel mesh laminated between two layers of nylon). It's like having a security fence around your valuables! The patented cable lock lets you anchor it to any secure fixture, and the adjustable padded shoulder strap is slash-proof. Made of black ballistic nylon, DaySafe has a removable insert for your laptop or documents, a front zippered organizer pocket with key clip, mesh exterior and side pockets, cell phone pocket on the shoulder strap, padded air mesh back support, and tamper-proof zippers. (19 x 12 x 8"; 1500 cubic inch capacity; 3 lb, 8 oz)

Customer Review: Do you want safe valuables or room for them?
Rating: 2 Stars

We had heard that in some of the areas we were to travel, people would steal your items by slashing the bottom of the pack and out they fall. This pack seemed like the solution. It certainly guards against this with the "heavy" wire mesh inner bag. However, this inner bag takes up alot of room and cuts down on the volume of the pack. The mesh bag is removable and comes with a cable to cinch the bag shut and a "cheap" lock to deter a cleaning attendant from trying to break in. However, the drawback is that if you take this inner bag out of the pack, the pack has no more protection than any other. As far as I know the sholder straps are not slashproof, and even though it look as though the outer bag has mesh woven in it, the bottom of the pack does not. It would have been better if the pack itself had a light mesh woven into the entire outer frame and forget the inner bag "safe". We kept everything of value in the hotel safe anyhow. Also, not to sure about the quality. The first real test was on a trip to NYC and by the second day, the handle on top of the pack came off on one side making it useless to lift the pack with. Bottom line is if you want to feel secure, expect to carry a heavy pack, with a minimal amount of storage space.
