I purchased this because I've never found a shaper that didn't roll down or bunch, and I thought the bra-attachment straps on this would work. I have heard really good things about Spanx; unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Expect to spend 15 - 20 minutes trying to figure out how to attach the dang straps from the shaper to your bra. After getting everything properly attached, I tried getting into it... the straps don't fasten securely, so they all popped off as I was putting it on, and I had to take it all off and try again. This time, I safety-pinned the straps down so they wouldn't slip and disconnect. I put it on again (attached to my bra) and found that the straps were too long. They're obviously meant to keep the shaper from rolling down around your waist, but they didn't, even on the tightest loop. I will say that I'm between average and petite (5'3'' and 125 lbs), so I may have a shorter torso than this was made for. In any case, the shaper came right under my bustline, and the straps didn't do anything because there was too much slack in them - the shaper still rolled down and fit uncomfortably around my bustline/waist area.
FINALLY, I decided to attach some straps to it myself. I pulled out some heavy elastic and made straps that attach right to the shaper, so it stays up and I can still use my own bra - I don't know why Spanx didn't think of that. (If you decide to do that, make sure to sandwich the Spanx between layers of cotton or felt before sewing on the straps, so the pressure put on the straps doesn't rip the Spanx material)
ANYway, after I finally rigged the thing so it actually stayed up, it looked great. I bought this to go under a form-fitting jersey knit dress, and it looked great: no bulges, no visible seams, and it was pretty comfortable.
Overall, I wish I had bought a cheaper shaper at a department store. I don't feel this was worth the money at all - especially since it would have been unwearable if I hadn't made my own alterations to it.
Customer Review: a modern torture device Rating: 2 Stars
I wish I could get my money back. I didn't even make it 3 hours wearing these things. From the minute I took it out of the package, it was nothing but a headache. It literally took me 1/2 an hour to get it hooked to my bra, some how manage to get the bra AND the spanx on, then I had to spend even more time untwisting the connectors, refastening them over and over because they kept coming loose, I had to wrap the front connector around my bra like 4 times because it's way too long.
Once I did manage to get the thing on correctly, and shimmy into my clothes, I found that I could not breathe and the top of it sat right on my ribs wear my chest expands to breathe. I was actually in pain because of the way the band sat on my ribcage. Breathing was extremely difficult and I literally took it off in the car on the way to a party and tossed it out the window. I will never buy another spanx product again.
Customer Review: didn't really work Rating: 2 Stars
This sounded like an ideal product because I could use it with my own bra. However, like some of the other reviewers said, it's not so easy to get on, the straps are stupid, but if you don't use them, the suit rolls down and hurts, and don't even think about going to the bathroom! It works, but like all my Spanx, it doesn't really live up to the claims because it rolls up, it rolls down, and i'm always adjusting something.Still, I must admit I haven't found anything that slims me down so well...but there must be something else out there.
Customer Review: Nicely slimming but straps don't help much Rating: 1 Stars
Like the last reviewer said it's tricky to put on using the little straps that go around your bra...that is a FACT. A front closure bra might help some. Even though I (finally and after a lot of cussing) got the straps around my bra, the garment still gapped underneath the bra on both sides of the back strap, which is right in the middle. That is the only place in the back there is a strap to hold the whole back of the girdle up.
Then there is one strap under each arm that goes around your bra there. It pulled down on my bra there causing scrunching. There is one strap in front in the middle too, which I don't need to use.
The directions say to attach the Spanx/straps to the bra and 'step' into the garment. RIGHT!! Much easier said than done.
For it to stay up properly in the back I think it needs straps not only right in the middle, but also to the left and right of the middle, in between that and the under the arm ones. I can't really use mine...A waste of money, I already removed the tags and can't send it back. I have another Spanx that is the same but without the little straps and I can't use that either, as it does creep down in the back. Unless you don't MOVE that is. So altogether I have spent about $150 for Spanx stuff I can't use.
There must be a better way to fasten those straps....maybe sturdy SNAPS or velcro or something, and they should fasten right to the TOP edge of the garment, as it is they hook half an inch down on the inside and that causes the top edge to tend to roll out and cause bulk there.
Not happy!
Customer Review: Hated it! Rating: 1 Stars
I purchased Spanx in Feb. The large was huge on me so I called to do an exchange. They said they would send a Med and credit me for the return when they received it. When I didn't get a credit I called several times and was told they may not have processed it yet, try back. Later I was told that they had changed their customer service company and couldn't look up my order anymore, that they would have to put in a request and someone would call me back within 24-72 hrs. I called three times and no one ever called me back. The kicker is that my credit card company can't file a dispute now because they put me off for more than 60 days. Now I am out the $72 for the return AND out $72 for the medium because even in the correct size I think this product is WORTHLESS!!! Even with the bra loops is falls down and it does not suck me in as well as my other shapers. Yes, it is more comfortable, but who cares if it doesn't get the job done!!!!!!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT AND BE WARRNED IF YOU DO THAT THEY HAVE HORIABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
Not to mention the fact that Target carries a line called Assets by Sara Blakely that is exactly the same stuff for half the price!
