Customer Review: "Seen on TV" Product That Actually Works

This is my third pair of Eagle Eyes sunglasses, and they remain my favorite type of shades. If you saw the old "informercial" full of quasi-scientific explanations of raptor vision and space helmets and the relaxing properties of bronze lenses, you may have been turned off, but fear not -- these are just nice, reasonably priced polarized, high-contrast sunglasses. I wear them to drive every day, and they're equally great for kayaking. I like this type of lens tint, which is a "blue-blocking" type, but dark enough to hide your eyes so you don't look like a dork like those poor people in the "Blu-blocker" ads. They provide great contrast for glare-y, and even near-twilight conditions. The polarization seems good, and really helps when looking down into the water. These don't seem to create much of the rainbow effect you get when looking at reflective surfaces (like a car with the sun hititng it)that some polarized lenses do. They do shift your color spectrum a bit, but again, the blue-blocking is restrained enough that you don't feel like you're looking through a yellow window. It actually does convey a slightly relaxed or "happy" vibe,in my opinion, although it goes without saying that you probably won't have the "Ahhh! That's better!" reaction suggested in the infomercial, because that would probably mean you are a crazy person. And you're not. Are you?

These particular frames seem to be a generic type -- I have a pair of another brand that appear to have the exactly the same design, which was fine with me, because I already knew how they'd fit and look as a result. The material seems pretty standard in terms of durabilty and flexibility, (not fragile, but don't sit on them or anything). I like the little winglets that wrap around the sides and cut down on reflections and side glare, which is especially helpful kayaking.

I recommend these "Eagle Eyes" for anyone looking for a reasonably priced pair of polarized shades with a nicely balanced tint for driving, boating, etc. that won't make you look like a dork. Four stars.
