I did a LOT of research before purchasing a bag and going with the Commute. I'm happy I did. I am student teaching , and I wanted something stylish and professional, yet still 'age appropriate' and functional. The pockets for organization are great, enough room for pens, sticky notes, extra pencils for the kid, white out, etc. there is a nice big pocket where i keep my personal stuff -- advil, wallet, hairbrush, etc. the large interior compartment allows me to carry what I need, but is sometimes at capacity. Yet, I've never had an issue fitting it all in.
The only part I was hesitant about and would caution you to, as well, is the computer compartment. I have a 13 inch macbook with a hard case, and sometimes it is difficult to get it in the laptop sleeve and zip the compartment without fear of breaking the zipper. I dont know if its because I have a case on it or not, but it is a tight fit. The pocket in that zippered area is great -- I keep a ethernet cable in there, as well as necessary elements to connect to an projector for the classroom. I used to keep my power cord in there, too, but have since "promoted" that to the main compartment and that seems to make zipping the computer area a lot easier. But, I am happy I have the lifetime warranty from Timbuk2 and that makes me worry a whole lot less.
Also, the shoulder strap isnt super comfortable. Im thinking of investing in a new one. I just carry it from the car ot the school or my house, but when its full -- it is heavy. I do really love the easy adjustment buckle on the side though -- it allows me to tighten or loosen the strap while im wearing it.
so, -1 star for the computer pocket and the strap but overall -- I would still highly recommend this bag! It stands up next to my desk without falling over, and i get lots of complements :)
