I've used this product for the last 5 years to walk down to the end of our driveway (about 1000' each way) twice a day to get the paper in the morning and mail in the afternoon. Since we live in Colorado at 7100' elevation we get our share of snow and sunshine that turns the driveway into a skating rink for 2 to 3 months each year. The Yaktrax Pro, which I leave on an old pair of running shoes, allows me to navigate my driveway and save a few broken limbs each year! The "Pro" are the way to go as they use a thicker rubber band with a strap over your instep which not only makes them more secure but they'll last a lot longer than the cheaper Yaktrax "Walker". I can usually get a couple of winters use out of them, which total about 75-100 miles before the rubber bands and coiled springs begin to break. If you work outside all day long you would not want to wear these 8 hours a day/5 days/week as they'll wear out very quickly and I think there are better alternatives for that kind of heavy, everyday use. That's why I give them a 4 star rating as I think the manufacturer could use a more durable rubber or similar composite that would last longer but then that would hurt re-sales wouldn't it. I guess that's why Goodyear doesn't come out with a tire that gets 200,000 miles before wearing out! You would not want to use them jogging either, unless you don't mind replacing them every few weeks, nor can you walk into the house with them on as they will do some damage to your tile or hardwood floors. Also, check their sizing chart as I wear a size 10 shoe and that equates to a "medium" so they do run large, probably to accomodate a large winter boot. But all in all they do the job well for me and are a cheap investment to prevent a broken bone or two.Customer Review: Yaktrax rock

This was a really icy winter and this product saved me from a lot of falls. You can really feel the difference they make when you walk on the icy spots. They come on and off easily. You have to make sure you take them off when you get inside of a building as they are slippery on a waxed floor. I purchased one set of these and one of the less expensive not "Pro" models and the Pro was a bit more secure and easier to put on if you are wearing big boots, otherwise either one will work.Customer Review: Everything I expected

I just wanted an assist for packed snow and ice. I didn't expect miracles. And the Yaktrax provide just what I expected and need.
Coincidentally, these arrived just two days before we got snow followed by rain followed by a deep freeze. That night I put the Yaktrax on and just strolled right up my ice-covered hilly driveway. It was dark and I couldn't see where I was putting my feet, but that didn't matter. The next morning I went out without the Yaxtrax, just to warm up my car and scrape the ice off the windows, and I was slipping and sliding all over no matter how carefully I tread.
You can slide them on smooth ice, but I found that it took a conscious effort. If I don't think about it, I can use a pretty normal stride. Naturally you should not assume that you don't have to take at least some care on ice.
I would agree that these would not be ideal for walking on cleared sidewalk or pavement for any great distance. They do squirm around. But I'm in a hilly rural area - the nearest sidewalk is 5 miles away - so that's not a concern for me.
The reviews that said they broke quickly concern me; I guess all I can do is wait and see. I don't wear them on cleared pavement or salted areas, so I hope they will last a while.
