Apparel reviews of eBags Weekender eTech ConvertibleCustomer Review: excellent Rating: 5 Stars
There are a lot of reviews for this item on the eBags website.
Here are my comments after reading other reviews and receiving the bag recently:
Mine came with a shoulder strap; some people said that it doesn't come with one.
Some folks complained about the plastic clips and rings. I've seen these kinds of plastic clips and rings on regular backpacks. I wouldn't expect this luggage/backpack to be any different. If you want metal rings, you can buy them cheap at a hardware store (get the 1.5 inch key rings; I have some of these and I will attach them to the inside of my luggage in case the plastic parts ever break while I am traveling; so, I'll be ready to deal with this problem, if/when it happens).
For me, it came down to this bag and the Rick Steve's bag. I liked the eBags version because of it's large main compartment, which I feel is more secure (especially if you wear it as a backpack...people can't unzip it and steal your stuff while you are wearing it). Both of the bags have plastic clips/rings. And the eBag costs less.
The bag is light weight when empty. Some reviewers complained about a chemical smell. My bag had no smell. Here are some statistics from the eBags website that don't appear in the amazon description:
* Weight: 3 lbs , 10 oz
* Capacity: 3066 cu. in.
* Material: 2520 + 840 D Nylon
Based on my inspection, the eBag is well made. The zippers are metal and they are heavy duty. I also liked the orange interior, because it is easy to see your stuff. There are handy zippered pockets within the 2 separate compartments as well as a large mesh zippered compartment in the main part of the bag. The first/outermost zippered compartment can hold a netbook.
Both of the handles (on top and on the side) are well padded. The backpack straps are also well padded; the waist strap is not padded. The shoulder strap is not padded.
I needed the bag to pack my personal items for travel, and then to convert it into a backpack to carry "Does God Love You?" pamphlets and Bibles once I got to my destination. Having it as a carry-on means my stuff won't get lost by the airlines. It meets the FAA and airline requirements for a carry-on: 22x14x9 inches.
I am pleased with my purchase, and I would buy this bag again. I needed something that would work as a carry-on and then be converted into a backpack. I plan to use this luggage on a missions trip to Romania with a Christian radio station called Family Radio Worldwide, which also broadcasts over the Internet.
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:" (Isaiah 55:6)
